A 21-kilometre wall of nearly vertical marble and schist cliffs dropping directly into the Pacific Ocean, Qingshui ('Clear Water') Cliffs is one of the most dramatic coastal landscapes in East Asia. The Suhua Highway runs along a narrow shelf blasted into the cliff face, and several viewpoints allow travellers to stand directly above the turquoise sea hundreds of metres below. Morning light from the east illuminates the cliff face in tones of white and grey.
