One of the ancient capitals of China and the eastern terminus of the historic Silk Road, Luoyang is flanked by the Longmen Grottoes to the south and was the site of the first Buddhist temple established in China, the White Horse Temple. The city's peony festival in April draws visitors specifically to Guanlin Miao temple and the Sui-Tang Luoyang City ruins. The nine-dynasty capital history is preserved in the Luoyang Museum.
