A geological park in Gansu protecting a formation of multi-colored sedimentary rock that has eroded into rippled hills banded in deep red, ochre, violet, and teal. The colors result from iron oxide and other mineral deposits laid down over millions of years. Viewing platforms above the main formations at sunset, when low-angle light intensifies the color contrasts, provide the defining photographic opportunity.
