Extending across the southern slopes of the Ailao Mountains above the Red River valley, the Yuanyang terraces form the showpiece section of the Honghe Hani Cultural Landscape already listed on UNESCO registers. Winter-flooded terraces catch sunrise light from the ridge-top villages of Duoyishu and Bada, producing mirror reflections of pink and orange sky. The fields are worked by Hani farmers using methods unchanged for centuries.
