Mount Everest (Chinese: Qomolangma; Nepali: Sagarmatha) is Earth's highest mountain at 8,848.86 metres, straddling the China-Nepal border in the Mahalangur Himal range. The northern (Tibetan) side is accessed from Shigatse via the town of Tingri, with the Everest Base Camp at Rongbuk at 5,150 metres serving as the main visitor destination. Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world, stands several kilometres below the base camp with a direct view of Everest's north face. The northern approach offers photography of the mountain's full pyramidal profile without the partial occlusion caused by ridges on the Nepali side.
