Attabad Lake is a landslide-formed lake in the upper Hunza Valley, created in January 2010 when a massive rockslide dammed the Hunza River and submerged several villages. The lake stretches approximately 24 kilometres and is distinguished by an exceptionally vivid turquoise colour derived from glacial mineral content. The Karakoram Highway runs through tunnels built along the lake's northern shore to bypass the submerged road sections. The surrounding backdrop of sand-coloured Karakoram peaks makes it one of the most striking lake landscapes in the country.
