Deosai National Park is a high-altitude plateau at an average elevation of 4,114 metres, making it one of the highest plateaux in the world and among the last strongholds of the Himalayan brown bear in Pakistan. The plateau is largely snow-covered for nine months of the year, emerging in summer as a vast wildflower meadow streaked with streams and dotted with glacial lakes. Sheosar Lake, near the plateau's edge, offers reflections of surrounding hills and is a landmark of the plateau landscape. The park borders Skardu district to the north and Astore to the west.
