Dochula Pass is a mountain pass at 3,088 metres on the road between Thimphu and Punakha, marked by 108 chortens (stupas) arranged in a symmetrical mandala formation called the Druk Wangyal Chortens. On clear days the pass offers a panoramic northward view of some of the highest peaks on the Bhutan-Tibet border, including Gangkhar Puensum. The chortens were built in 2004 to honour Bhutanese soldiers and create a classic foreground element for Himalayan landscape photography.
