Rara Lake is Nepal's largest lake by area, situated at 2,990 metres in the remote Rara National Park of far-western Nepal. The lake's clear, deep-blue water is fed by mountain streams and surrounded by coniferous forest and open grassland, supporting populations of Himalayan black bear, red panda, and migratory waterfowl. The area receives very few visitors compared to Nepal's main trekking corridors, making it one of the country's most pristine wilderness settings. Access is typically by small aircraft to Talcha airport followed by a two-day walk.
