The Gokyo Lakes are a chain of six high-altitude glacial lakes in the Khumbu region, the largest of which, Dudh Pokhari, lies at 4,700 metres adjacent to the Ngozumpa Glacier, Nepal's longest glacier. Gokyo Ri, the hill above the main settlement, provides one of the most celebrated panoramic viewpoints in the Himalaya, encompassing four of the world's six highest peaks: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. The lakes' vivid turquoise colour contrasts with surrounding ice and scree in photography.
