The Knuckles Mountain Range in central Sri Lanka is a UNESCO World Heritage biosphere reserve northeast of Kandy, named for the resemblance of its five summits to a clenched fist when viewed from the Kandy valley. The range contains a high degree of endemism in both flora and fauna, including cloud forest patches found nowhere else in Sri Lanka, and supports several small traditional villages whose agricultural terracing creates photogenic landscapes. Multi-day trekking routes connect the villages and ridgelines.
