Historic Monuments of Dengfeng in “The Centre of Heaven and Earth”

Chinese tradition placed the centre of heaven and earth at Mount Songshan, and around its foot near Dengfeng a remarkable record of that belief accumulated across nine dynasties: eight clusters of buildings including Han-era Que gates — the oldest religious structures in China — along with the Dengfeng Observatory, the Zhougong Sundial Platform and an array of temples. Ritual, science and education all left monuments here. UNESCO inscribed the Dengfeng ensemble in 2010.
