Two small islands connected by a white sand causeway exposed at low tide, Nosy Iranja is located about 80 kilometres south of Nosy Be and is surrounded by transparent turquoise shallows. The larger island hosts a lighthouse and serves as a nesting site for green turtles, whose nocturnal egg-laying can be observed with a guide between November and March. The sandbar crossing at low tide is one of Madagascar's most photographed coastal scenes.
