Zimbabwe's largest national park, Hwange covers 14,600 square kilometres of Kalahari sandveld and mopane woodland in the northwest of the country. It supports one of Zimbabwe's largest elephant populations, estimated at more than 40,000, along with lion, spotted hyena, sable antelope, and a renowned wild dog population. Artificially pumped waterholes in the dry season concentrate wildlife for exceptional viewing from vehicle-side hides.
