Nxai Pan National Park encompasses a series of fossil lake beds north of the Makgadikgadi, where open grasslands and shepherd's tree woodland attract large zebra herds from December to April. Baines' Baobabs — a cluster of ancient baobab trees painted by explorer Thomas Baines in 1862 and remarkably unchanged — are among the most photographed trees in Botswana. The park's low visitor numbers and open habitats make for relaxed wildlife observation.
