The Quiver Tree Forest near Keetmanshoop in southern Namibia contains one of the densest natural stands of kokerboom (Aloidendron dichotomum), known as quiver trees for the San people's practice of using their branches as quivers. The trees — which are actually giant aloes that can reach six metres in height — create an otherworldly silhouette landscape ideal for astrophotography under the dark Karoo skies. The adjacent Giant's Playground features bizarre balancing dolerite boulders.
