The Orange River drops approximately 56 metres into a narrow granite gorge at Augrabies Falls, producing one of the world's largest waterfalls by volume during peak flood. The surrounding arid national park shelters klipspringer, gemsbok, and leopard among its boulder-strewn koppies and riverine vegetation. The viewpoints at the main falls are accessible by paved path, while the river canyon downstream is explored on multi-day canoe trails.
