The oldest proclaimed nature reserve in Africa, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park in northern KwaZulu-Natal played a pivotal role in saving the white rhinoceros from extinction through Operation Rhino in the 1960s. The park remains the global stronghold for both white and black rhinoceros, alongside a full complement of savanna wildlife. Its varied topography of hills, grasslands, and riverine forest provides rich wildlife-watching territory.
