Queen Elizabeth National Park spans the Albertine Rift floor between Lakes Edward and George, connected by the Kazinga Channel where one of Africa's highest hippopotamus densities can be observed from a launch cruise. The Ishasha sector in the south is known for tree-climbing lions that drape themselves across fig branches, and chimpanzee habituated communities occupy the Kyambura Gorge — a steep forested ravine cutting through the savanna floor. The park's diversity of habitats — crater lakes, savanna, forest, and wetland — produces a high bird species count exceeding 600.
