A well-preserved early twentieth-century desert fort built on the site of the archaeological zone surrounding the abandoned eighteenth-century trading town of Zubarah, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fort itself serves as an archaeological museum and visitor centre for the Zubarah site, which preserves the remains of a once-prosperous pearl diving and trading city. The coastal landscape of flat sabkha and shallow Gulf waters surrounding the ruins is virtually unchanged from the period of the town's occupation.
