A dramatic escarpment roughly 90 kilometres northwest of Riyadh, locally known as Jebel Fihrayn, where the Tuwaiq plateau terminates in sheer limestone cliffs dropping over 300 metres to a gravel plain extending to the horizon. The view from the cliff edge — an apparently endless flat expanse with no visible human structures — generates the 'edge of the world' impression for which the site is named. Sunset and late afternoon are the optimal times for photography when the cliff face glows in warm light.
