A mountain town at roughly 1,500 metres in the northern Lebanon Mountains, perched at the edge of the Qadisha Valley and near the Cedars of God forest reserve. The town is the birthplace of the poet and artist Kahlil Gibran, and his former house is maintained as a museum. The surrounding landscape of snow-covered peaks in winter, terraced apple orchards in summer, and the dramatic drop into the valley gorge makes Bcharre one of the visually distinctive mountain towns in Lebanon. Skiing in winter and hiking in summer draw visitors from Beirut.
