Beneath snow-capped peaks in north-west Sichuan, terraced limestone pools spill down the Huanglong valley — the Yellow Dragon — alongside waterfalls, hot springs and the easternmost glaciers in China. Diverse mountain forests around them shelter endangered animals, among them the giant panda and the golden snub-nosed monkey of Sichuan. UNESCO recognized Huanglong as a natural World Heritage Site in 1992.
