Where Cameroon, the Central African Republic and Congo meet, three contiguous national parks merge into one vast tract of rainforest that people have barely touched. Natural clearings known as bais draw forest elephants and western lowland gorillas into the open, while the rivers hold Nile crocodiles and the predatory goliath tigerfish. Covering roughly 750,000 hectares of the northwestern Congo Basin, the Sangha Trinational was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012.
