Rila Mountain is the highest mountain range in Bulgaria and the entire Balkan Peninsula, with Musala Peak reaching 2,925 metres. The massif's central zone is protected within Rila National Park and encompasses high alpine meadows, cirque lakes, and beech-to-spruce transition forests. The combination of the highest peak on the peninsula, dense glacial lake systems, and the historic Rila Monastery on the northern slopes makes this the most visited mountain region in Bulgaria.
