The smallest of King Ludwig II's three palaces, Linderhof stands in a mountain valley in the Ammergau Alps near Ettal and is the only palace he completed and actually inhabited. The building blends Rococo and French Baroque styles in an intimate scale, surrounded by formal terraced gardens with fountains, a cascade, and a gilded Neptune basin. The grounds also contain a Moorish kiosk and a replica of the Grotto of Venus from the Venusberg in Wagner's Tannhäuser.
