Carved by the Partnach River into a narrow slot gorge south of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Partnach Gorge extends roughly 700 metres with walls rising up to 80 metres. A blasted and hewn rock path threads the canyon, passing beneath overhangs where the torrent carves pools and chutes in the limestone. In winter the gorge walls accumulate elaborate ice formations and frozen cascades that attract photographers and winter hikers.
