A twin-community resort at the foot of the Wetterstein range in the Bavarian Alps, Garmisch-Partenkirchen combines a traditional Bavarian market-town character with world-class alpine infrastructure. Frescoed facades in the Partenkirchen old town reflect the local Lüftlmalerei tradition, while hiking trails radiate into the surrounding mountains. The town served as host to the 1936 Winter Olympics and remains one of Germany's premier ski destinations.
