The Moselle winds in pronounced meanders through deeply incised hills of Devonian slate between Trier and Koblenz, producing some of Germany's steepest and most spectacular vineyard terraces. Medieval wine villages such as Bernkastel-Kues and Cochem anchor the valley, and the hilltop Reichsburg Cochem is visible from kilometres away. The combination of river reflections, vine-terraced slopes, and fortified villages makes the valley a classic landscape photography destination.
