Straddling the German–Czech border along the Elbe River, this national park encompasses a surreal landscape of sandstone plateaux, narrow gorges called Klammen, and isolated rock towers formed by millions of years of erosion. Hiking routes range from valley-floor walks beside the river to exposed ridge traverses with panoramic views across the Bohemian countryside. The park is particularly prized by rock climbers and landscape photographers.
