Stobi is the site of an ancient city at the confluence of the Crna and Vardar rivers, occupied from the Bronze Age through late antiquity and serving as the capital of the Roman province of Macedonia Secunda. Excavations have revealed a large urban area with a theatre, basilicas, episcopal complex, and extensive floors of Byzantine mosaic, some of the finest preserved in the region. The site remains partially under active archaeological investigation and is one of the most significant classical-era sites in North Macedonia.
