Mavrovo National Park is the largest national park in North Macedonia, centred on an artificial reservoir and encompassing the high karst plateau of the Bistra mountain and forested valleys on the western side of the country. The park is habitat for the critically endangered Balkan lynx, one of the rarest cats in the world, and supports populations of wolves, brown bears, and chamois. The Mavrovo ski resort is operational in winter, making the park one of the few in the western Balkans with significant winter-season infrastructure.
