Jajce is a medieval hilltop town in central Bosnia where the Pliva River drops in a broad curtain waterfall directly into the Vrbas River at the base of the old town walls, an unusual urban waterfall visible from the city itself. The town was the seat of the last Bosnian kings and later a significant Ottoman fortification, and the remains of its fortress crown the hill above the waterfall. The Royal Catacombs beneath the medieval town are among the rare surviving pre-Ottoman funerary structures in Bosnia.
