Blagaj is a village at the foot of a 200-metre sheer cliff from which the Buna River emerges fully formed from a karst spring, one of the largest spring-fed rivers in Europe. At the base of the cliff, a sixteenth-century Dervish tekke has been built directly above the water's edge, its Ottoman timber architecture overhanging the turquoise pool where the river begins. The visual combination of the pale cliff face, the green water, and the historic building is one of the most striking natural and architectural compositions in the western Balkans.
