The Dwejra headland on the western coast of Gozo is a geological showcase of sea-eroded limestone where the Inland Sea, a sheltered circular lagoon connected to the open Mediterranean by a tunnel through the rock, provides sheltered kayaking and snorkeling above vivid coral and sponge formations. The Blue Hole nearby is a circular natural shaft open to the sea that drops through the cliff base to underwater caverns, regarded as one of the finest dive sites in the Mediterranean. The dramatic rocky coastline retains its visual power following the 2017 collapse of the iconic Azure Window arch.
