Porto Cervo is the central marina and social hub of the Costa Smeralda, the northeastern Sardinian coast developed in the 1960s under the direction of the Aga Khan into a luxury resort destination distinguished by its turquoise water, pink granite headlands, and architectural controls that required all buildings to blend with the natural landscape. The marina, framed by low white cubist buildings cascading down to the water, is one of the largest superyacht harbors in the Mediterranean. The beaches of the Costa Smeralda, particularly Capriccioli and Romazzino, rank among the finest in Europe.
