Ischia

The largest island in the Bay of Naples, Ischia rises from a volcanic foundation that still heats natural thermal springs throughout the island. The Aragonese Castle on its tufa islet connected by a causeway to Ischia Ponte is the architectural centerpiece, and the approach by boat is one of the great coastal silhouettes of southern Italy. Thermal garden complexes, pine forests, and the sandy beach of Maronti on the southern coast round out an island of unusual variety.
