Capri is a limestone island at the southern end of the Bay of Naples, characterized by dramatic sea stacks called the Faraglioni, vertiginous coastal cliffs, and the famous Blue Grotto sea cave where refracted light turns the subterranean water an intense cobalt. The two towns, Capri and Anacapri, differ markedly in character, with the latter preserving a more tranquil atmosphere at higher elevation. The walk from Anacapri to the lighthouse at Punta Carena traverses maquis scrubland with expansive views toward Sardinia.
