Erice is a medieval hilltop town at 750 meters on the western tip of Sicily, its cobbled streets and Norman castle regularly shrouded in mist rolling in from the sea. The town's ancient walls, the Venus Castle, and the 14th-century church of Sant'Orsola preserve a remarkably intact medieval streetscape largely unchanged for centuries. On clear days the panorama from the battlements extends to Tunisia across the Strait of Sicily.
