Taormina occupies a natural balcony on the slopes of Monte Tauro above the Ionian Sea, with a view that encompasses both the coastline and the snow-capped cone of Mount Etna. The Greek Theatre, the best-preserved in Sicily, frames this twin spectacle of sea and volcano from its semicircular tiers, and summer film and music festivals use the ancient stage. The medieval corso and the gardens of Villa Comunale offer additional viewpoints across the bay toward Giardini-Naxos.
