Ragusa Ibla is the historic lower quarter of Ragusa, rebuilt in baroque style after 1693 on a limestone ridge above a deep gorge. The district is a labyrinth of carved stone stairs, noble palazzi, and small piazzas culminating in the Duomo di San Giorgio, whose convex facade and twin bell towers constitute one of the great set pieces of Sicilian baroque architecture. The view from the Giardino Ibleo terrace at the eastern tip of the ridge surveys the entire ravine below.
