A prosperous city in the Veneto at the foot of the Berici hills, Vicenza contains more than twenty buildings designed by Andrea Palladio, including the Basilica Palladiana—the copper-domed centrepiece of the main piazza—and the Teatro Olimpico, the world's oldest surviving indoor theatre still in use. The surrounding Euganean and Berici hills are dotted with Palladian villas that extend the city's architectural heritage into the countryside.
