On the eastern shore of Lake Como, Varenna is a compact village of yellow-plastered houses grouped around a small harbour below the ruined Castello di Vezio. The Passeggiata degli Innamorati, a lakeside walkway cut into the cliff face, connects the waterfront to the church of San Giorgio and offers unobstructed views across to the Larian Triangle. Villa Monastero's botanical garden runs along the lake's edge.
