Son Bou is the longest beach on Menorca at approximately 2.5 kilometres, stretching along the southern coast between low dune systems and backed at its eastern end by an early Christian basilica from the 5th or 6th century, one of the oldest religious structures on the island. A wetland lagoon behind the western dunes supports a variety of migratory and resident waterbirds, and the beach's length means it accommodates both the resort concentration near the hotels and quieter sections further along. The ruins of the basilica provide an unusual archaeological feature directly on the beach.
