Playa de las Canteras is the main urban beach of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, extending for approximately three kilometres along the city's Atlantic façade and sheltered by a natural reef bar known as La Barra that runs parallel to the beach. The reef creates a calm lagoon-like zone suitable for swimming, while the outer side of the bar offers stronger conditions for surfers. The promenade behind the beach, lined with restaurants, cafés, and market stalls, gives the beach a distinctly local city character compared to resort beaches elsewhere on the island.
