Dalt Vila is the walled upper town of Ibiza city, enclosed within 16th-century Renaissance fortifications built under Philip II to a design by the Italian military engineer Juan Bautista Calvi. The fortifications, cathedral, and historic urban fabric within the walls are inscribed as part of the UNESCO site recognising Ibiza's biodiversity and culture. The ramparts offer panoramic views over the harbour, the salt flats to the south, and the open sea, and the interior lanes contain a mix of historic religious buildings and residential architecture.
