Valldemossa is a small hillside village in the Serra de Tramuntana, known primarily for the Carthusian monastery of La Real Cartuja where Frédéric Chopin and George Sand spent the winter of 1838–39. The monastery's cells, chapter house, and pharmacy are preserved as a museum, and the village surrounding it is a well-maintained ensemble of stone houses with terracotta-potted façades. The surrounding mountain road offers views of olive terraces and the northwestern coastline below.
