Ciutadella is the historic former capital of Menorca, built around a natural harbour inlet that cuts into the western end of the island. The old town preserves an ensemble of Gothic and Baroque religious architecture, noble palaces, and narrow lanes that together constitute one of the best-preserved historic centres in the Balearics. The harbour, lined with traditional fishing boats and restaurant terraces, is particularly atmospheric in the early morning and at dusk.
