Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak

Under a mound on the edge of Kazanlak, a narrow corridor opens into a round, domed burial chamber whose murals have survived since the closing years of the 4th century BC. Painted for a Thracian noble buried near Seuthopolis, seat of King Seuthes III, the scenes of ritual and procession rank as Bulgaria's best-preserved painting from the Hellenistic age. Found in 1944, the tomb joined the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.
