The Rioja wine region in the upper Ebro valley is Spain's most celebrated wine appellation, covering vineyards in La Rioja, Navarre, and Álava across a long valley sheltered by the Sierra de la Demanda. The Rioja Alta subzone around Haro contains many historic bodegas, some designed by architects including Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid. Autumn harvest transforms the vine rows into vivid gradients of gold, amber, and crimson.
