The Rioja wine region in the upper Ebro valley is Spain's most celebrated wine appellation, covering vineyards in La Rioja, Navarre, and Álava across a long valley sheltered by the Sierra de la Demanda. The Rioja Alta subzone around Haro contains many historic bodegas, some designed by architects including Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid.
